These essays are drafted as the first public voice of CHAI Education: teacher-respecting, evidence-aware, and unwilling to confuse automation with learning.
Founding essay
AI can generate explanations, feedback, plans, summaries, and simulations. It cannot replace relationship, care, human judgment, civic formation, embodied practice, or the teacher's situated understanding of a learner.
Teacher labor
AI will only be good for teachers if saved time becomes real relief. If schools use AI to raise expectations, remove planning time, or flatten professional judgment, the technology becomes another workload machine.
Learning design
The question is not whether AI makes learning easier. The question is whether it removes unnecessary friction or removes the cognitive effort that students need in order to learn.
Taxonomy
"AI tutor" is too vague. Schools need to distinguish answer engines, study companions, source-grounded tutors, intelligent tutoring systems, feedback assistants, simulators, and operations agents.
